Stephen Cavanagh
Steve Cavanagh has been practising law in Ottawa for over 30 years. He was a partner in two Ottawa-based litigation firms until he founded “Cavanagh Litigation Counsel” in July, 2001. He then joined forces with Heather Williams, to form “Cavanagh Williams” in March, 2002. In 2009, the firm expanded to become "Cavanagh Williams Conway Baxter LLP".
Steve’s litigation practice focuses on professional liability claims, insurance and commercial litigation. He is often called upon by clients to provide opinions on insurance coverage and liability issues. Tom Conway
Tom has practised civil litigation in Ottawa since his call to the bar in 1989. He articled at, practised in and become a partner of a prominent Ottawa law firm before joining the Ottawa office of a national law firm in 1995, where he was a partner for over 14 years. For much of that time, he was the Ottawa Litigation Group Leader. He joined CWCB as one of its founding partners in September 2009.
Tom has extensive civil trial and appellate experience, acting as counsel in jury and non-jury trials in the Superior Court of Ontario, in the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, the Tax Court of Canada, and the Supreme Court of Canada. Colin Baxter
After 18 years at a large national firm, Colin joined CWCB as a partner in September 2009. He has a bilingual practice in civil litigation and administrative law and specializes in complex commercial cases.
Colin acts for a variety of sophisticated commercial clients. He represents business owners, franchisors, lessors and lessees, finance companies and trustees in commercial disputes. He is frequently retained for product liability, insurance-related litigation and defamation actions as well as shareholder and trust matters.
Colin routinely advises his clients on appellate advocacy and practice and frequently acts as an agent before the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also appeared as counsel before several federal and provincial public inquiries and has represented his clients in regulatory and disciplinary matters and various other cases involving government or quasi-public entities. David Wilson
David has practised for over 25 years in the areas of litigation, public law and international trade law. He joined CWCB as a partner in October 2010 after practising at two large national firms.
David regularly appears before the Federal Court and Supreme Court of Canada and has argued trade and public law cases before the courts in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and the Northwest Territories. David represents clients on a broad range of complex WTO and NAFTA issues and disputes and advises on international market access, investment and trade negotiation issues. More... > |

Susanne Sviergula
Originally from St. Catharines, Susanne moved to Ottawa in 1990 to study criminology at the University of Ottawa, where she became a competitive rower. After obtaining her Honours Bachelor of Social Science (cum laude), Susanne moved to Japan where she taught English for two years on the JET Programme.
Susanne returned to Canada in 1996 to begin law school at the University of Windsor. During her final year, she was the Resource Director of Community Legal Aid. More... > |

Kelly McMullan
Kelly is a graduate of Western University Law School, where she obtained her LL.B. in 1986. Following her graduation, she moved to Ottawa to complete her articles and practised in two Ottawa-based litigation firms, focusing on personal injury (both plaintiff and defence), as well as employment and commercial litigation.
Kelly is returning to the practice of law at CWCB after taking time to raise her four children.

Chris Hutchison
Chris is a graduate of the University of Windsor Law School, where he obtained his LL.B. in 2008. Prior to graduation he spent a summer with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and a summer with the Ottawa office of a national law firm.
While attending law school, Chris volunteered as a caseworker at Community Legal Aid of Windsor and as a member of the Faculty of Law Admissions Committee. After graduation, he articled and worked as an associate with a national law firm in Ottawa before joining CWCB in 2009. Calina Ritchie
Calina is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario, where she obtained her LL.B. in 2008. Apart from this short stint in southwestern Ontario, she has been a long-time Ottawa resident and pursued her Bachelor of Science at the University of Ottawa.
Prior to completing her law degree, Calina spent several summers working at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in agreement coordination and one summer with the Ottawa office of a national law firm. More... > |

Adam Huff
Adam obtained his LL.B (cum laude) from the University of Ottawa in 2008. He returned to Ottawa to join CWCB in 2011 after completing his articles and practising with a national firm in Calgary.
During law school, Adam completed a clerkship with the Ottawa area Regional Senior Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice, as well as an internship with the Department of Justice Criminal Conviction Review Group. He also did contract work with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada - Trade Law Bureau, where he worked on NAFTA and WTO trade dispute litigation representing the Government of Canada. Anna Turinov
Anna joined the firm after clerking for the Honourable Mr. Justice Louis LeBel at the Supreme Court of Canada, and at the Federal Court of Appeal. Anna has a bilingual practice with a focus on commercial litigation and public law.
Anna spent a few years in Vancouver and holds a J.D. from the University of British Columbia where she received a number of awards and was a member of the Laskin Moot team. While in Vancouver, Anna was called to the bar in British Columbia and worked at a national firm. Prior to law school, Anna worked as a policy analyst at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Anna is an avid traveller and is proficient in Russian and Japanese. More... > |

Valerie Westwick
Originally from Ottawa, Valerie joined the firm after having practised civil litigation with a well-known law firm in Ottawa, focusing on personal injury and property loss claims. During her articles and first years as an associate, Valerie acted as a research consultant to the National Criminal Justice Reform Symposium and gained broader experience working in the federal government.
Valerie was an executive member with the Ontario Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division (East), during which time she assisted in the organization of programming geared towards young lawyers and articling students in Ottawa. She is also a proud Timeraiser participant.
